Options 4 Change was devastated to hear of the death of a 23-year-old man near Loughborough Junction.
The young man was shot in the head. Another young man has presented at hospital with a gunshot to the ankle. According to the Brixton Blog, police have linked the two victims and opened a murder inquiry.
This is the 10th death this year. It comes days after the community buried another of its young people.
These tragedies are not accidents, nor are they inevitable. We can and must stop these killings. Options 4 Change is calling for community engagement, familial support and statutory change to break the culture of violence.
We must do more. What we are doing is not working.
There is much more work to be done. We must work together consistently with real determination to save our youths from collective systems failures, gangs, guns, knives, wasted lives and - too often - death.
